Truckers End Long Beach Port Strike

Trucker strikeAccording to news reports, the Long Beach, California truckers’ strike is over, ending a five-day strike that disrupted cargo flow.

On Friday, the truckers voted to end their work stoppage against three companies after the firms promised no retaliation.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti has asked for a cooling-off period, the Los Angeles Times reported. In a statement from the mayor, he noted: “Following the city’s meetings with both sides, the Teamsters have agreed to pull down their pickets and enter a cooling-off period to allow the harbor commission time to investigate the serious allegations regarding worker safety, poor working conditions and unfair labor practices.”

Business at the port is back to normal.

The drivers had targeted Total Transportation Services, Green Fleet Systems and Pacific 9 Transportation, which have approximately 400 trucks serving two ports.
