Used Volvo trucks have the highest resale value
Used Volvo VNL trucks retain higher resale value than comparable models in the U.S. market according to a new analysis utilizing the independent data platform VIP+
VIP+ is a tool used to evaluate commercial vehicle resale performance across major age brackets. Full year 2025 data shows that Volvo VNL sleeper models retain value better than comparable models in the U.S. market, strengthening total cost of ownership and long-term return on investment for fleet operators.
“The findings reinforce Volvo’s reputation for durability, efficiency, and long-term fleet profitability. Our customers are focused on the total cost of ownership, not just upfront investment cost,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “The strong resale performance of our legacy Volvo VNL sleepers demonstrates the real-world value of designing trucks that are built to last, operate efficiently, and continue delivering returns well beyond their first ownership.”
Used Volvo VNL sleeper models typically retain 20% to nearly 30% more value than comparable trucks of the same age and mileage, reflecting strong and consistent demand in the secondary market. Resale value is a key contributor to total cost of ownership and long-term return on investment, particularly as fleets navigate inflation, fluctuating freight demand and broader market volatility. The demand for Volvo sleeper models remains strong in secondary markets, reflecting confidence in vehicle durability, driver comfort and operational efficiency.
Volvo VNL introduced in 1996
First introduced in North America in 1996, the Volvo VNL has been a long-standing platform in the U.S. heavy-duty sleeper segment. Over multiple generations, the model has been widely adopted for long-haul operations and helped shape industry standards for aerodynamics, driver environment and fuel efficiency. The analysis covers resale performance of the legacy Volvo VNL platform and does not include the recently launched all-new Volvo VNL.
